    Server.log error - Failed to load props.xml - An invalid character was found in text content for Macs

    jmcleish

      Using ePO 4.5 RTW,

      McAfee Agent 4.0.0.1396, McAfee Security for Mac 9.0.0 (3975)
      Hotfix/Patch Version       HF529390

      In January I added Hotfix 529390 in the repository and started noticing (I'm sure they weren't there before - but not 100% sure) errors in the server log for quite a few Macs:

      I thought this may be concerned with the fact that the CMA hadn't restarted , but one client (MacOSX: 10.5.6) has definately been rebooted and is still showing errors.

      The last contact time for this client is Last contact 05/03/10 00:27:59.

      It appears that its not processing the props.

      I'm not 100% sure, but think this may be to do the hotfix install.

      But just wondering if anyone knows what the problem or cause is .

      Thanks

      Jane

          Hi Jane,

          I'm checking to see if any other customers have reported this issue after installation of the mandatory hotfix HF529390.

          Will get back to you shortly on this.

          Thanks,

          Rod.

            We haven't had any other reports of this as far as I can see, Jane. There are a couple of things we need to look at, though.

            name="/dev">0.10</TotalDiskSpaceIn><FreeDiskSpaceIn name="/dev">0.00</FreeDiskSpaceIn></ComputerProperties><ProductProperties SoftwareID="EPOAGENT3700MACX" delete="false"/><ProductProperties SoftwareID="VSCANMAC9000" delete="false"><Section name="General"><Setting name="szDATVersion">5910</Setting><Setting name="szSPVersion">?? 29390</Setting></Section></ProductProperties><ProductProperties SoftwareID="VSCANMAC8610" delete="true"/></ns:naiProperties>, error: An invalid character was found in text content.

            In the section I've highlighted above, we would expect this to contain the full entry for the Hotfix - for example: HF529390. The question mark characters are very likely replacing the 'invalid characters' - as if the installation is on a non-English locale. (it isn't, is it?)

            If you look at the About box for VirusScan for Mac, does it show the Hotfix has applied with the correct name?

            Also, have you had a look at the LastPropsSentToServer.xml file that you'll find in the /Library/McAfee/cma/scratch folder? Maybe you can PM me and get a copy over to me?

            To be honest, though, this is looking like you may need to open a case with McAfee Support in order to get a resolution...

            Thanks,

            Rod.

              Thanks Rod for this.

              the last props looked like this in the sever log:

              20100315091030    E    #3548    NAIMSRV     naimserv::LoadPropsXMLBuffer: Failed to load props.xml, line 1, position: 545, source:><Setting name="szInstallDir">/Library/McAfee/cma</Setting><Setting name="szProductVer">4.0.0.1396</Setting></Section></ProductProperties><ProductP roperties SoftwareID="VSCANMAC9000" delete="false"><Section name="General"><Setting name="AutoDetectForeground">Enabled</Setting><Setting name="SpywareScanning">Enabled</Setting><Setting name="szDATVersion">5917</Setting><Setting name="szEngineVersion">5400.1158</Setting><Setting name="szHotfix">HF529390</Setting><Setting name="szProductVer"> 9.0.0 (3975)</Setting><Setting name="szSPVersion">?? 29390</Setting></Section></ProductProperties><ProductProperties SoftwareID="VSCANMAC8610" delete="true"/></ns:naiProperties>, error: An invalid character was found in text content.

              I noticed it now said the hotfix version, but still gives the strange spversion.

              I'll go and take a look at that machine, the locale (its shouldn't be!) and get the file for you.

              Thanks very much

              Jane
