    FakeAlert

Help..... can any one help me get rid of the FakeAlert ? I can't run McAfee I can't do anything in windows. I had to run firefox to get in here. I get an error message that says this application cannot be executed. The file mcshell.exe is infected. Do you want to activate you antivirus now? This is the general error I get for all, just the file name changes. I can't install  anything at all because I get this message all the time. It will redirect me to a bunch of porn sites and adds for viagra. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I don't want to dump it and reinstall anything because like a dummy I haven't back up anything. I also am getting the fake  virus protection software adds.

          Hi bluestokesia,

There are a lot of fakealert variants cropping daily. McAfee has produced Stinger tools as solutions to help with special threats/infections that are difficult to deal with and we have done so for this threat and are keeping this updated with some of our newer detection signatures and technology that are not yet in the dat files.  You can download the FakeAlert Stinger from the following location:

          http://download.nai.com/products/mcafee-avert/fakealertstinger.exe

An article is available at http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=TS100893 that discusses this tool as well as instructions for use.

Please let us know if it solves your issue.

          Regards,

          Anand

We are having the same issue and the link sent is not working from a non-infected computer.

My daughter brought her computer to me with the error message MCshell.exe is infected after clicking on something when browsing with firefox.  I am unable to run McAfee in regular mode.  I have been running McAfee in safemode, but it is not finding the virus.
