    Update not working

      Help … The automatic update for McAfee is not working.

      The McAfee Security Center warns that I am not protected and that attention is indicated for both “Computer & Files”,

      as well as “E-mail & IM”  (“Internet & Network” is indicated to be protected),with the problem identified as “The detection signature file is between 8 and 29 days old”.

      When I click “Fix” downloading of “McAfee Virus Scan” starts but cuts off anywhere from 5% to 15% complete, then starts to download again,

      cuts off again and the cycle repeats without a successful download.

          Hi TGM,

          May I know certain additional information on this like;

          What is the operating system of the computer ?

          What type of internet connection you use ? (cable/wireless)

          Do you have any other security programs installed in the computer ?

          Did you perform any recent changes for the computer like a system restore ?

            As is indicated in the MVT report, the OS is XP Pro.

             

            My internet connection is dial-up.

             

            No other security programs have ever been installed.

             

            There have been no changes to the computer.

              Hi TGM,

              Unfortunately , it takes a long time in dial up connections for the updates to complete. If the updates continue to fail, the problem description will change to Your Your signature files are 8-29 days old.Please check the below steps so that we could update it.

               

              1.Check and delete if you have any other antivirus software installed in add/remove programs and C:/program files and common files.
              2.Download and run the tool from:
              http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MSCPRXFIX.exe.  and restart the computer

              3. Click update in security center and let the updates complete so that the protection status should go back to green
