Adobe  products, advertising and negative interactions

      Warning to you all.

I've had calls yesterday from local admins about problems on some PCs. It seems that users installed the latest Adobe products (Adobe Reader, Flash player, etc.) from the website and they didn't pay attention to the advertisement.

See the websites <http://get.adobe.com/reader/> or <http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/?promoid=BUIGP>

Apparently, when you install Adobe products, their website offers you "Free McAfee Security Scan (optional)"(*).

Some users didn't think too much and installed this on their PCs which had our ePO Agent and ViruScan Enterprise already installed...
Bad idea as nothing works any more.

We managed to uninstall everything and reinstall everything but that's a  waste of time.It seems to me at least McAfee ought to be able to detect presence of other McAfee products and not install this thing on top of it.

(Of course, we know "users shouldn't be allowed to install..." and "it's simple to unclick the selection" as well as anything regarding user education... But that policy hasn't yet been written, decided and I can't enforce it.)

(*)   About 2/3 of the time it's McAfee, sometimes it's Symantec or the Google bar.
