I have just loaded the Mcafee internet security 2010 on a brand new computer at home. After transfering data from my old compter I get a pop up asking if I want to upgrade to Windows 8. This is tha same pop up that killed my last computer. After getting all updates from mcafee and two full scans this pop up goes undetected and is not removed or quaranteed. any help out there?

Sorry to hear the " Windows 8 infection " which killed your old computer.
I think the data that you backed up from your old machine contained the infection
Just try to perform a scan using the Singer tool from the link
Would you be able to capture a screenshot so we can better understand the issue? Otherwise, a starting point we be to run something like GMER (gmer.net ), and save the log and post it up here.
This is the best screen shot i could get with my skill level of computers.
Stinger did not work.
Did you run stinger straight from the download or did you enable any of the advanced features first? If you've not already tried it then I'd recommend you do so. Please make sure it's in report-only mode for the scan, with network heuristic check set to 'very high' - then when the scan has completed please post the log here.
Full details on how to enable these settings are in this thread: http://community.mcafee.com/message/26869#26869
Hope this helps,
Have now viewed your screenshot - it's for Internet Explorer 8 which is a valid program. Could you provide more details as to why you think this is a fake pop-up please?
That looks like the same legit popup I got on several of my systems, after updating to IE 8. I do not believe that to be malware.
