    Scan Returns Me to Protection Screen

      It is twelve months since this thread was started on not being able to start a manual scan and I have encountered the same issue.  The Scan option returns me to the Protection Status screen.   Also the Virtual Technician program will not install for me.  Four online chats/telephone conversations with McAfee have not resolved the manual scan problem.  I have successfully installed McAfee on three other machines (2 Vista machines, 1 XP) but not this particular XP machine.


      I have gone through the routines of removing other anti-virus programs, Control Panel removal and special clean utilities from vendors.  I have also tried the IEFIX and scripting suggestions (these did more harm than good, as Internet Explorer began to crash afte running them).
