Why would you need third party tools to deploy EEv6 client?
If you have McAfee ePO agent 4.5 deployed, it will install EE Client via tasks and policies.
For ePO agent 4.5 installation you just need to deliver FramePkg.exe and that can be done with third party tools easily.
Thanks Peter for you response.
I am assisting a large Aerospace Defence company for a PointSec displacement.
They have a seperate packaging team responsible for endpoint SW deployment, they use their preferred deployment method (ie. Unicenter) while Server/Security team manage the ePO administration. Most of the enterprises I have worked with do not use ePO for software deployment hence we have to give them .msi for packaging.
But most of the SMB/Midsize and even some enterprises rely on ePO for endpoint sow deployment. Further, McAfee have official 3rd party packaging instructions (ie. for MS SCCM) doco for some products (HDLP) I was wondering whether there is such doco for EE as well. (if not at least some instructions on what files to be used)
no sorry, there's no official 3rd party packing instructions available, or planned at the moment. I guess you could get professional services to help create it for you but its not something we have a plan to deliver at the moment.
As EEPC6 is so intrinsicly linked to EPO4.5 I'm not sure it was ever a consideration that someone might want to deploy it outside that framework. I understand deploying the EPO client itself might be useful through some other system, but everything from then onwards is an extension to EPO (not a separate product) so is really designed to be deployed with EPO itself.
Thanks everyone ofr comments!
I performed manual installation of EE6 client with success. Here are the simple steps:
Where xx is 34 or 64 Bit
Verify Agent Installation McAfee Agent - Quick Settings
Once above step is successful, Install MfeEEPcXX.msi
Where xx is 34 or 64 Bit
Once Installation is complted system will prompt to restart.
After the reboot encryption will begin.
Above steps can be automated using 3rd part deployment tool (ie. SMS, Unicenter etc.)
Mink, I'm glad you figured this out. I was about to reply with the same info.
In general, McAfee is making it easier to deploy individual components by means other than ePO. In fact, there is a whitepaper for how to do it with our most common products (AV, Anti-Spyware, HIPS, etc.). I'm sure we can dig that up if you need it.
Thanks Dan. I haven't seen that white paper, appreciate if you could post it.
Hello please can u send the white paper on how to deploy eepc products manually or via third party tools.
EEPC instructions are not included in the whitepaper.
Deploying EEPC by third party tool is very simple.
- Ensure the McAfee Agent v4.5 or later is already installed on the system. If it is not, include the framepkg.exe file with your package and run it first. You can export a framepkg.exe file from your ePO server (via the add new systems screen).
- Determine if the host is 32-bit or 64-bit
- Deploy the appropriate MfeEEAgentxx.msi, wait for it to complete
- Deploy the appropriate MfeEEPCxx.msi
- Reboot when prompted
- Done - the agent will activate and encrypt after the reboot
All these MSI files are in the .zip file you get when you download the product from McAfee's download site.
Are there command line switches to run the msi packages silently? Can we run it silently simply by adding /s?
