According til McAfee the VirusScan Enterprice 8.5i is not supported on Windows 7.
You will need to run the VirusScan Enterprice 8.7i
Please look at McAfee compability list for VirusScan Enterprice.
I have just been through 2 weeks of pain trying to get this working.
At the very minimum you need EPO agent 4.5 and 8.7i patch 2 (just been reposted November 3rd)
You need to create all new tasks and policies (I put my windows 7 machines in a new group and created all the tasks, etc for that group). Then you must deploy the agent. After that, you will have (if you are as "lucky" as me) a client that has the agent and av installed, but I don't get the system tray icon or any of the options, and the tasks are not replicated to the AV console.
Here are some McAfee links that may help, although the first actually suggests running SQL against your EPO database!
1. Modifying existing VirusScan tasks to adopt Windows 7 platform codes (KB67321)
2. VirusScan Enterprise 8.7i deployment and policy enforcement to Windows 7 clients fail (KB67314)
3. ERROR: McAfee VirusScan Enterprise is on but is reporting its status to Windows Security Centre in a format that is no longer supported (when clicking View antivirus options) (KB65884)
Gary, is this the URL that lists the incorrect information on 8.5i and Windows 7:
I submitted a request to have the error fixed, but I assume McAfee as the Vendor must provide official proof that 8.5i is incompatible.
They should have enough by now, after the last 2 weeks!
