          Hi Raj,

Yes, if you have a FS1000 appliance that is running Windows 2000 it is a Dell 1850 based appliance. These appliances shipped for a very short time with Foundstone 4.0 running Windows 2000 and included SQL 2000. There is an upgrade kit available, for purchase, for these FS1000 appliances through McAfee/Channel sales. This upgrade kit includes older Foundstone 4.2 restoration images used to upgrade your appliance to Windows 2003. You can upgrade the newly upgraded appliance to a currently supported version of MVM. If you wish to upgrade to MVM 6.8 you may also need to purchase and upgrade from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005 on the FS1000 appliances.

To purchase this upgrade kit, you will need to order SKU: FSMS2003UPGE

We have a Windows 2003 FS-1000 appliance running MVM 6.5 (with SQL Server 2000).

Our server is covered by a still valid (until the end of 2010) McAfee support: I don't feel as so much correct that to update from 6.5 to 6.8 we have to pay a separate fee for a database engine which is fully integrated/embedded into the appliance and which represents a mandatory requirement for the update of an application we've already paid for (and we're still paying for...)

When we bought the FS-1000, the order included the appliance (with its O.S. and DB engine, which were not paid separately but were included into the bundle as fully embedded) and the software license: and we're still paying support for those... "embedded" components fees should be included into the MVM license costs (and not splitted if a "forced" update is required just to update to a minor update release).

Above all considering that MVM 6.5 is going EOL in the first half of next year... and upgrading will be soon mandatory...

To purchase this upgrade kit, you will need to order SKU: FSMS2003UPGE

According to its description, the SKU FSMS2003UPGE seems to be related with the upgrade from WINDOWS 2000 to WINDOWS 2003 (am I wrong?), while the thread topic was related to SQL SERVER 2000 to SQL SERVER 2005 upgrade...

The right SKU which has to be purchased for the SQL Server database upgrade is FSSQL2005UPGE.

                Hi Douglas,

                Good catch on that.

The SKU for the upgrade from Windows 2000 to 2003 is FSMS2003UPGE. This really only applies to the original Dell 1850's FS1000's that were shipped with Windows 2000. All FS850's are already Windows 2003.

The SKU or the upgrade from SQL 2000 to 2005 is FSSQL2005UPGE. This applies to all Dell 1850 and most Dell 1950 systems being used as a database.

There were a few threads going on recently about both upgrades and we made a mistake on that SKU..
