Well what operating system and service pack do you have and how much memory (RAM) do you have installed plus how much free hard drive space?
Hi there Ex Brit thanks for getting to me
well my operating system is Windows XP Home edition service pack 3.
it has 256MB of RAM.
& I have 12.5 GB on my hard drive.
OK, at 256mb you have the absolute minimum required RAM. So should there be anything else demanding memory, your stuck up a creek without a paddle so to speak.
I suggest you seriously look into expanding that RAM to at least 1gb if possible. These days many applications are memory hogs.
In doing that you will notice a marked increase in speed for most of your computer's functions.
In the meanwhile I would suggest using Windows Firewall and Avast Anti-Virus (free but you have to register it) which only requires 32mb of RAM: http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html
many thanks for your help & advice it's greatly appropriated ex brit
I'll look into getting them programmes you suggested until i get around to upping my RAM
thanks again. take care all the best.
