Repeating what I said in the Test thread...
This issue arose when people were testing IE8 beta....are you still using that?
If so uninstall a.s.a.p. and install the full version from Microsoft's website.
What browser and version (from Help/About) are you using and what operating system and service pack?
I haven't been able to uninstall IE8. I get a comment that certain files can't ge copied so it won't uninstall. Also, I've tried to download another IE8 from Microsoft, it says I already have IE8. I downloaded IE7 and tryied to run it but it won't run because of IE8.
I also tried to run the Mcafee program you suggested and that did not solve the problem.
The Mcafee secuity opens to a blank window.
Any more ideas?
From Microsoft's website..
Steps for Windows XP or for Windows Server 2003
To uninstall Internet Explorer 8, follow these steps:
- Close all programs.
- Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
- Click Add or Remove Programs.
- In the list of currently installed programs, click Windows Internet Explorer 8, and then click Remove.
Note If Windows Internet Explorer 8 does not appear in the list of installed updates, try the alternative steps for Windows XP or for Windows Server 2003.
- Follow the instructions to uninstall Internet Explorer 8.
- When the uninstall program is finished, restart your computer.
Now go to the "Did the "Let me fix it myself" steps fix the problem?" section to verify that your earlier version of Internet Explorer is restored.
Click the alternate steps link.
If that doesn't help have you tried System Restore to before you installed IE8?
When I go to Add/Remove Programs it lists Internet Explorer Beta2 but when I try to uninstall it starts but then indicates it cannnot copy certain files and even though I tell it to continue without copying the file the IE8 program is not uninstalled.
I'm a little concerned about trying an earlier restore as I am not sure what updates, etc I may have downloaded, however it sounds like a last resort.
Well it's definitely that Beta version that is causing the problem. The final version of IE8 came out ages ago but I guess you missed the announcement.
There is another method for its uninstallation here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/957700#ALTWin5
