What is the Operating system (OS) you use?
How do you connect to the internet (DSL, cable or wireless)?
Did you made any recent change to computer in the recent past like system restore or installation of any application/software?
Check the version of McAfee security center and the product installed ( Click on About button in the bottom Right of the McAfee security panel –check all the McAfee product)

i have cable internet
my computer had lots of viruses on it about two weeks ago and i took it to best buy for them to remove the virues. they got rid of all of them but some programs like linksys easylink advisor are having the same problems as mcafee. i reinstalled it thinking that it was missing some component of something but it stills came out the same
and i have version 8.1
Did you removed the McAfee from the control panel or did you un-installed using McAfee removal tool MCPR?
Perform the McAfee Virtual Technician in computer and post the session ID http://mvt.mcafee.com/mvt/default.asp
Check if we have the McAfee service enabled in system services and system configuration utility (Start –run-services.mcs- check if all the McAfee service is started).(Start –run-Msconfig-click on service tab and check if all the McAfee service is enabled )
If the service is turned off/disable try to enable it
If the issue persists then run the McAfee removal tool and reinstall the McAfee from the website account
everything is enabled but still having problems also tired to remove it with the removal tool but i cant find it. did a full computer search and it didnt find it
Are you able to download the McAfee without any issue? Did you have any other security program installed in the computer?
What is the version of internet explorer you use?
Are you able to download any other file from the internet?
Update the Windows manually make sure you are able to download update including optional update.
If the issue persist than I would recommend you to check with McAfee technical support chat department for further trouble shooting steps
