What's that 8mb figure that you quoted?
Did you have any previous protection software installed?
Is XP up to date with both critical and non-critical updates from Microsoft Updates?
How much memory (RAM) and free hard drive space does your machine have?
Try scanning with anti-spyware, the free version of this tool is good: http://www.superantispyware.com/superantispywarefreevspro.html
There's no need to switch off Windows Firewall as once McAfee's FW is up and running it automatically switches WF off.
Lastly I assume that this is XP x86 (32-bit) as opposed to 64-bit or x64?
8MB was wishful thinking on my part (RAM) actual is 384 at 800mhz. I had Norton inatalled at one time (though I removed it completely). I have "Adaware" anti-spyware installed.
My "C" drive has 1.75GB of free space and I try to install any other software to my larger "F" drive.
All Windows updates are up to date as of today (auto update on).
XP is 32 bit with SP3, home version, 2002 version. Intel P3 processor.
Internet is dial up here at work and it is very slow 31.2 kb.
Thanks for the reply.
Well that memory in my opinion is a little on the low side. Although the published System Requirements state 256mb minimum, I would recommend at least 512mb. But you have enough HDD space.
Not sure what to suggest except run the Norton Removal Tool in adddition to that anti-spyware tool I suggested.
Make sure that Adaware has no active protection installed or turned on.
A little on the low side is being kind!
I'll try your suggestions. Adaware was active when I tried the downloads. TU.
I ran the Norton removal tool. Turned off AdAware. The Installation tool starts running the " compatability checker" then stops. the internet shows activity but nothing happens after the "indicator bar" moves about 3/4 of an inch. Hows that for technical jargon?
Let me ask for help. One more ??...is this a CD or online download type installation? What suite, VirusScan Plus, Internet Security Suite, Total Protection or what?
On line download of Internet Security Suite. TU
OK. Hopefully someone will think of something.
bumping this to see if anyone had a resolution?
I've come to this board to see if I can help my mom for the exact problem.
