    Post-deployment consideration - Adding a Backup Server

      Hi,

      We deployed our environment as a 1 server with full daily backups via our production server tools.

      I would like to add a 2nd server to accomodate for the Hot Backup option and I understand the steps to set that up.

      I have the document on implementing the SafeBoot Hot Backup, but have some questions.

      How do I get the existing clients to now check for communication to either server?

      I see the sdmcfg.ini file is where you can modify the additional servers, but if I modify it and try to sync, the log states it is only looking for the first server and whe it fails doesn't look for the 2nd entry.

      Is there a specific format in the syntax of the file I am missing/incorrect?

      Here is what I tried:

      [Databases]
      Database1=Server01.corp.company.com
      Database2=Server02.corp.company.com
      [Database1]
      Description=Server01
      IsLocal=No
      Authenticate=Yes
      Port=5555
      ServerKey=(removed for space)
      AuthType=1
      [Database2]
      Description=Server02
      IsLocal=No
      Authenticate=Yes
      Port=5555
      ServerKey=(removed for space)
      AuthType=1

      Is there something else that needs to be done on the client side to get it to check for a different server connection other than modify the sdmcfg.ini file?

      Thanks!

          you need to edit scm.ini as well. SDMCfg.ini only describes the connections, not how to use them.

            Do you think you could give me a little more to go on?

            1. Does the syntax of my sdmcfg.ini file look correct?
            2. What might a proper scm.ini file look like in conjunction with the sdmcfg.ini file details I've supplied?

            I'm reading the file details in the documentation and notes in the file, but they don't quite click in my head on what we'd want to modify them to say, incorporating a new backup server.

            My current scm.ini file looks like this:

            BootSynchDelay=5 ; delay before synching on boot in minutes
            RandSynchDelay=10 ; an extra max random delay to synch in minutes
            SynchOnRas=No ; synch when RAS connection detected
            SynchInterval=30 ; time between automatically retrying synch
            AllowClose=No ; whether to allow the user the option to close SCM

            [disk]
            Sbfs.defaultsize=32

            [Log]
            MaxSize=256
            PurgeSize=16
            [Install]
            GroupName=US-Assigned Workstations
            GroupId=0501bd56
            [Databases]
            DatabaseID1=1
            TryLastGoodFirst=No
            Order=Fixed
            LastGoodConnection=1
            [Uninstall]
            SbSetup.exe=SbSetup.exe

            Thank you
