Go to Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs (Programs/Uninstall a Program in Vista) and uninstall IE8 Beta 2.
It's a known issue and is being worked on by Microsoft.
No quick solution, sorry.

That is what I have.
Yes, IE7 or 6 (whichever you had) will automatically reactivate once you reboot afterwards.
I had to do the same in XP and Vista.

I took 8 off and mcafee is opening now.
