    mcods.exe crash

Hello, I'm having a problem with scanning a file on my hard drive. I'm currently running windows vista ultimate 64 bit with virusscan 13.3.127. The file that is giving me troubles is register.exe from simp-lite (free msn encryption application). Every time I run a scan it stops at that file and crashes. Trying to scan the file individually gives the same result. I've tried submitting the file to a few online virus scanning services, and all of them report that the file is clean. But mcafee can't seem to scan it without crashing.

      I get the following error:
Scanning has encountered a problem from which it cannot recover. Here are the problem details:
      -Error getting scan progress.

Windows also pops up a window telling me that the On Demand Scan has stopped working and gives the following details:
      Problem signature:
      Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
      Application Name: mcods.exe
      Application Version: 13.3.127.0

As far as I can tell, it's only this one file causing troubles. All other files that I've tried were scanned without incident.
        • 1. This describes the exact problem that I have as well!!
Hello, I don't mean to hijack this thread at all, but this is exactly the same as the problem I am having. I encounter the same errors, however the .exe that crashes virus scan is different: civcityrome.exe. This executable comes from a game (compatible with vista) that I downloaded from steam. It is important to note that I did not have this problem a week ago although the game was installed then as well. Additionally, when I "delete [the game's] local files" through steam, virus scan runs without any problems.

I appreciate any input that could be offered for the problem that smokeyser and I are experiencing.

          Thanks!

            Hello,

I am encountering a nearly identical error on my system as well when I run a quick scan or a full scan. I received the same error message initially; however, am now encountering the following error message:

I am encountering the error on C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Sidebar\sidebar.exe each time.

I am using Windows Vista 64 bit, Service Pack 1. McAfee is set to automatically update, and I am using the most recent version. This started happening on July 31.

Please let me know if there is any resolution to this issue.

So I talked to a guy on the online chat. He told me that technicians were aware of the issue and he requested that I wait 24 hours and then contact them again if I was still having the same problem. While it has already been 24 hours (and I am still having the problem), it seems that the error is on McAfee's side. I've uninstalled my internet security suite numerous times and scanned with other software for viruses, and never found any. This makes me think that they will roll out an update soon which addresses the issue - hopefully sooner rather than later. I was just relieved that there is apparently no virus on my computer.
