    Synchronisation interval

I've noticed that SafeBoot doesn't seem to synchronise as soon as you would expect it to. If I look at the status in the Tray Manager and add the time to the next synchronisation to the time that the last sync finished I get a time when the next sync should occur, but it always occurs later than this calculated time. Can anybody tell me why this is so?

It waits until the specified delay interval has passed, then on the next check it will sync. It's only accurate to a minute or so.

I'd figured out how it basically worked, it's just that I've seen delays of 29 minutes for the sync, not just a minute. So how often does the client wake up and see if it's time to sync?

              every minute.

are you sure you don't have a sync delay + random offset set in the policy?

Yes I do but I thought that only affected the initial sync. Certainly that is what is implied in the manual. Is there something I should know? :)

post some evidence of what you're talking about please?

One extract from the client log coming up :-

                    19/08/2009 09:21:58 Starting synchronization
                    19/08/2009 09:21:58 SbFs total space = 49508352 bytes (47.21 MB)
                    19/08/2009 09:21:58 SbFs free space = 41587712 bytes (39.66 MB)

                    19/08/2009 10:17:01 SbFs total space = 49508352 bytes (47.21 MB)

                    Now, when I add 47 minutes to 09:22, I get 10:09, not 10:17... :)

I can't explain it. Maybe all those 1min inaccuracies are adding up.

                      Sorry.

My world is rocking on its foundations, my ghast is well and truly flabbered, you don't know. Well, if you don't know, I might as well forget the question as I'm pretty certain no-one else will know :)

On the other hand, I could remember the question and slip it in if I happen to be interviewing any potential SafeBoot administrators and I'm feeling evil... :D

                        Thanks anyway!
