However the full scan will not complete and McAfee looses the "scan progress".
What do you mean by this?
Scan goes for long time or does it halt with/without an error.

perform a full windows up .. also ensure that you update all the DELL software and drivers too...

I'm pretty sure the Windows is updated as we have auto-updates - I shall check anyhow.
Then I'll do the DELL stuff.
Ok it seems the only Windows update I am missing is XP SP3 which I have so far not bothered with.
The VirusScan problem was happening before I first declined SP3 from MS anyhow!
The DELL updates are not so easy to determine as to whether they are updated or not - but I have done a DELL scan and all appears fine.
Superantispyware scan found nothing either sad
