1. Are you using Internet Explorer 8 beta 2? If so uninstall it, reboot and try again.
2. In Internet Explorer got to Tools/Internet Options - under the Security tab set all zones to default, click Apply, under the Content tab turn off Content Advisor and click Apply, under the Advanced tab click default and click Apply. Close I.E. and try again.

Also, do you or did you have any other protection software installed?
Thanks for your tips. But after installing SP3 and deleting IE8Beta, the same problem still arises. What should I do? And also, my brother installed it on his older laptop which uses Windows Professional SP1 and it works perfectly fine? Why is it so and my computer being more updated why can't the VirusScan Plus 2009 be installed?
I tried the other option which did not state that it is recommended and i deciphered at the required fields in the black screen and managed to install it. it is working fine and it is protecting my computer. thanks.
Glad it's fixed.
