System Restore does mess McAfee up as it has date-related material in it. Usually after a System Restore updating it will take care of the problem.
See this FAQ: http://service.mcafee.com/faqdocument.aspx?id=TS100328&lang=en_US&prior_tid=2&An swerID=16777217&turl==http%3A%2F%2Fkb.mcafee.com%2Finfocenter%2Findex%3Fpage%3Dc ontent%26id%3DTS100328%26actp%3Dsearch
Hi Ex Brit,
Thank you for your quick reply, I only tried the "Fix" button. I wondered if I should click on update, but at the time I didn't want to dig myself in any deeper! so I reversed the restore.
I might try again by way of a test to see what happens as long as it's not likely to cause any problems.
I know sometimes when the Mcafee on my other machine, a laptop, is out of date (it doesn't get connected to the net often) the "fix" button doesn't seem to take me back to"green tick" status and I have to update manually.
Looking at the link you sent though, it seems that perhaps it's no longer possible to use system restore with McAffe without uninstalling it, or am I reading it wrongly?
It is possible, that FAQ is only meant so that you avoid any problems at all. I find that I can usually do a System Restore, then right-click the taskbar icon and select Updates. That usually cures it.
If not then go through the uninstall/reinstall routine.
Many thanks for your help Ex_Brit, it’s much appreciated.
