"The user logon interface c:\programme\safeboot\sbgina.dll failed to load"

I'm having at the moment 2 computers where the above error shows up before the user gets the chance to enter his Windows password. Safeboot screen is skipped, so I assume that the AutoBoot user is still in the system.
The only way to log on is in Safe Mode (without networking). It's Windows XP SP2.

I've check the SB-OrigGinaDLL and GinaDLL values in the Winlogon key under HKLM, but they appear to be OK. Also, we've tried to replace the sbgina.dll file from a known working machine, but result is the same.

Can you suggest what the next steps should be? Have you already seen such behaviour?
