just to test if something is conflicting with your data backup please do the steps below
1. go to safemode with networking
>> turn off your computer. turn in on and tap repeatedly F8 key until you get to windows advanced options
>> in windows advanced options menu highlight safemode with networking and press enter
>> press enter again for the operating system
>> log in
>> click yes when prompted regarding safemode
2. once windows have loaded everything open mcafee
>> it will show a not protected satus because mcafee services are stopped/not running
>> open backup and restore
>> check if the error still occurs
That worked! Now we are making some progress. I can open the backup/restore window in safe mode with networking. What's the next step to figuring out the problem?
I tried some stuff in another thread that was mentioning reinstalling Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 and I uninstalled that and reinstalled that and a fix for that. I can't install version 2.0 cause I have a vista machine. Then I also did the same for MSXML stuff, version 3.0 and 4.0. That didn't work either.
ok good... we can trim down the possibilities to a software that is conflicting with your data back up...
next step we can try is this...
go back to msconfig (start>run>msconfig)
in the services tab, click on enable all.
hit apply and ok/cose, restart and let the computer reboot without tapping F8...
when you go back to windows try opening data back up again...
it doesn't work with all of them checked. they were all checked anyway when i went into msconfig.
Thanks for the help so far!
let's try this out...
got to start>run>msconfg
go to services tab, look for hide all microsoft services (bottom left of the window) and put a check on it, then click on the disable all button, go back to the box and place a check mark on all mcafee services...
now go to the startup tab, click disable all, and then put a check on any mcafee startup item.
hit apply and ok/close... then restart when prompted.
when you're back in windows open mcafee and check if you can open data back up without errors...
if error still appears or if you're not able to open data back up, please run the mcafee virtual technician in my signature and post the session ID here...
ok. I did that and the backup/restore function didn't work and I expected it to work with just mcafee and microsoft. What do I do next?
please try running McAfee Virtual Technician in my signature and post the session ID...
session id: 16341102
the folder permission for your antispam and back up and restore are incorrect... hold on... let me ask for more troubleshooting steps regarding this issue... i'll come back with an answer...
