Remote Syncronisation to clients from Safeboot Server

      Hello,

I am experiencing a problem with safeboot clients on attempting to remote syncronise device encryption.

The Clients are on the local network and are picking up DHCP addresses and it appears that they now have a different IP to the one that the safeboot server is attempting to contact.
( I am assuming that the clients have obtained a new lease)

Working on that premise I am struggling to work out how I can update the information held by the server to match the clients actual IP information.

Normally I would think that as the IP on client changed this inforamtion would be fed back to the server and adjusted. (this is right????)

The audit trail of this particular machine is empty on the server so the communication seems to be broken.

I am seeking suggestions and any actions to try??

      Thanks

      PDJ

Once you try to force a sync from the server towards the client, and it fails doing this by it's IP address, it will attempt to sync by using the hostname instead.
If, in the situation, these are all also changed then yes -- a sync from the server -> client goes wrong.

However, once you resync from the clients side (eg. you select Sync or it autosyncs) it will update it's IP address with the machine's info in the database.
Hence, a changing IP address shouldn't be much of a bother in such situations..

            Thanks Eelco,

That was my expectation but the client log on a problem machine shows the client starting up and a synch from the client locally in which it states "object not found".
this machine is in the DB.

On the server the log when attempting remote synch just states:

contacting "machine name" on 10.148.134.208 address over port 5556
connection to "machine name" failed on 10.148.134.208 . Trying again using network name.
Error connecting using "network name" at 10.148.134.208
0x5c020008 "unable to authenticate user" finished.

below is the client machine log.

            any ideas?

this usually means someone deleted that machines object from the database.

get the machine ID from the pre-boot about box, then make sure that object ID exists in the database hosted by VSCAN05
              • 4. RE: Remote Syncronisation to clients from Safeboot Server
With some luck the machine is still in the deleted machines (System tab -> Deleted Items -> Deleted machines).
as mentioned before, make sure you have the correct Machine ID.
                • 5. Re: Remote Syncronisation to clients from Safeboot Server

And if the machine object is in the database? I'm having the same issues for some machines and while trying to sync (remote and local) i'm getting the "Unable to authenticate user" error.

Knowing that we used an offline package how can i sync these machines with the database?

                  Regards,

                  • 6. Re: Remote Syncronisation to clients from Safeboot Server

A scenario (and fix) that I've seen:

Machine adds are done automatically, as they install the software, and then do the first sync.

Machine syncs 1st time, pulls encryption policy and software update, creates object.

Machine syncs 2nd time, but there's some sort of hiccup, so it creates a DUPLICATE object, MachineName0001, and uploads audit trail. All future syncs (#3 and beyond), update the second object audit trail

All the scripting tools won't get rid of the original object, since it has no audit items, and there's no time-stamp for object creation.

                    Fix:

Query the DB (and deleted machines) for MachineName* (or Object ID from the client, or "ComputerName="), and see what you get for hits.

If you find two objects....delete the first object, and rename the second object back to the machinename.

                      thanks for the reply,

how can i do that? What tools did you use?

                      regards,

just use a search or filter in EEM itself?

                        • 9. Re: Remote Syncronisation to clients from Safeboot Server

well after refreshing my console deleted machines is still empty.

So i still have a machine that can't authenticate for whatever reason.

Do you know what i can check to determine the cause of this error on the server: 0x5c020008 : "Unable to authenticate user"

On the client i get this error: Error [db000005] : "Authentication was not succesful"

We use an offline installation package and i imported the SDB file into the directory but still i'm not able to sync.

                          regards,
