    ENS10.5x + DE71/7.2 + Kinston Datatraveler = Blue screen (BSOD)

      Hi All.... and especially McAfee employees.

      We are having a problem when using ENS10.5.x in combination  with Drive Encryption 7.1x/7.2x and encrypted USB keys.
      If these products are installed AND a Kinston Datatraveler encrypted key is used, when opening the datatraveler application we get a Blue Screen.

      The problem is related to the Drive Encryption Opal driver.

      Test:

      • Clean
        install Windows10_1511.

      • Installed
        McAfee suite:

              Agent 5.0.5.658        VSE 8.8.0.1804        Test with Kingston Datatraveler Vault Privacy (8GB) stick
              => OK

      • Installed McAfee suite:
        Endpoint Security Firewall 10.5.1.1038
        Endpoint Security Threat Prevention 10.5.1.1184
        Endpoint Security Platform 10.5.1.1147
        Test with Kingston Datatraveler Vault Privacy (8GB) stick
        => OK

      • Installed Drive encryption:  attention without activating the actual encryption (encryption policy disabled)

              Drive Encryption: Windows 7.1.3.604         Drive Encryption Agent 7.1.3.604
              Test with Kingston Datatraveler Vault Privacy (8GB) stick

               => OK

      • Enabling encryption Policy… Wait until system is encrypting.

              Test with Kingston Datatraveler Vault Privacy (8GB) stick
              => Blue Screen!!

      • We checked the registry and noted that although we don’t use Opal, the driver was still activated.
        ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} => UpperFilters: MfeEpeOpal, MfeEpePc, PartMgr.
        So we removed “MfeEpeOpal”

              Restart system.

              Test with Kingston Datatraveler Vault Privacy (8GB) stick

              => OK

      We first thought the problem was related to DLP11 so I started the discussion in the DLP group and now moved it to the ENS10 group.

      Regards,

      AerialJibe.
