ePO 4.0 p4 repository update issue

ePO4.0 p4 installed on Win 2003R2 SP2 x86 system and running fine for several months now, but it's stopped updating automatically a couple of weeks back. I've tried a manual pull task today (from both http and ftp) and this fails with the bed-wettingly helpful error: '-1'

I have seen this error once before and am sure I came across some articles that addressed it, though for the life of me I can't find them now. If memory serves I just ended up uninstalling and re-installing the thing at the time, but I'd quite like to be able to fix it if at all possible.

I've tried a few things to see if I can rectify by updating / importing various things:

Updating ePO4.0 to patch 5 - this fails before setup gets going with 'Setup detected an error reading the db.properties file required to continue installation. Verify that this file is in the correct location'

I've checked around this error and could see two KB articles relating to TCP/IP in cliconfg (as it should be) and the port number being assigned dynamically - it isn't as far as I can tell (it's certainly responding on the port number that is listed in core/config)

Importing CMA3604 - fails with 'unknown failure processing package'.

Importing sdat - fails with 'package is corrupt'.

Logically I'd assume that all of this is probably tied into the same core issue, but I'm not sure what that might be and wondered if anyone had any suggestions?

Extract from log appended below - I've started it a couple of mins before I initiated an HTTP pull, then when that failed I then initiated an FTP pull. Neither worked, and the below logs should encompass both attempts.

Just to throw the info in there, there is a remote proxy server (down vpn tunnel) in play for http requests. Ftp on the other hand doesn't pass through the proxy and is routed directly out from the firewall. As previously mentioned, it had been working anyway, and nothing's changed on the proxy, which also deals correctly with http requests from ePO on multiple other remote sites.

What time zone are you in? I am in central time and between 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM, there is about a 95% chance I will fail at pulling a dat update from either HTTP or FTP. I don't know if this is when you have it scheduled to pull, but if it is, I would suggest you move your times. That is the prime time for dat updates and you will lose the battle with connecting to the site almost every time. I have mine scheduled just to check every 5 hours just in case there is an emergency dat released sometime later in the day, so again, I would just suggest making sure you are trying your pull after that mid day time frame.

We're in the UK, so I make that six hours ahead of central time, which would put my manual pulls noted in the log at around 0700 your time. It's already scheduled for a couple of pulls a day with 12hr seperation anyway. Appreciate the suggestion, but think it can probably be discounted.

I had a similar problem a while ago. I went out to McAfee manually downloaded the files I needed and then checked them into the Master Repository. That seemed to clear up the issues and I was able to pull like normal after that.

I looked at the log and it looks like this may be SQL related. The lines that keep repeating themselves...

Popping any of those lines into google comes up with issues relating to SQL, and those are all over in that log file. You may want to check your connect to the SQL Server or the database. If you are running the database on the same server as your EPO install, you may want to check the port that is being used.
