Well maybe have a look at the proxy-settings for your repo-lists.
Do you use a proxy? I would suggest then this is expected behavior.
Thanks for the reply.
While a proxy is in use for ePO to access McAfee, that is manually configured in Server Settings. The Agents have a direct connection to ePO, no Agent Handlers or distributed repo's in use. I still don't see how this is expected behaviour - there is no need (or want) for a McAfee Agent to attempt to proxy its way anywhere.
Assuming a use case I haven't thought of (Agent looking for settings on behalf of Web Control maybe?), there's certainly no need for the Agent to request wpad.dat every few seconds, and a policy option to enable or disable the WPAD functionality would be appreciated.
so at least your ePO is your repo.
By default the Agent is set to use IE / Standard Proxy settings which on the other hand is set by default to automatically detetect settings = wpad.
As you stated you have 5.0.4 installed: https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=KB87990
Hope that helps.
Regarding the interval for the requests: What is your asci set to?
Excellent - that's exactly what I needed, I had completely missed the Proxy config settings in the Agent Repository policy, including the wanted 'disabled' option.
ASCI is set to 60 minutes. From your link it looks as though other Agent proxy issues are being addressed so I will check again with Agent 5.0.5 when I can and see if that addresses the WPAD request frequency.
Thanks very much Daniel for the help.
You´re welcome mate.
As an update to this. Even with the proxy setting in Agent Repository policy set to 'Do not use a proxy', the Agent is still making WPAD requests. I'll test with Agent 5.0.5 when able.
