"An unexpected error occurred" when I'm trying to edit VSE 8.8 Policies

Hi all

I receive "An unexpected error occurred" when I'm trying to edit an existing VSE 8.8 policy.

I can duplicate or import policies, but when I click on it, i receive the error.

Enviroment

- Server:          ePO 5.1.1 on Windows Server 2008 R2

- Database:      SQL 2008 on Windows Server 2003 R2

When the error occurs I find these entries in the orion.log and stderr.log

orion.log

2015-03-19 11:51:53,474 WARN  [http-bio-8443-exec-42] servlet.ControllerServlet  - Could not resolve an action for EditOASDefaultPolicy.do in /PolicyMgmt

Can someone help me please ?

Re: "An unexpected error occurred" when I'm trying to edit VSE 8.8 Policies

Looks like Missing or corrupt files in the McAfee VSE 8.8 extension installation directory. Check in ePO console > Extension > VirusScan Enterprise.

As per logs it is happening when you trying to edit Access Protection policy.

thanks, I have already tried to remove and reinstall the extensions, but nothing, the error message appears again

Re: "An unexpected error occurred" when I'm trying to edit VSE 8.8 Policies

I'll suggest to log a case with McAfee and submit the MER log collected from ePO server.

Re: "An unexpected error occurred" when I'm trying to edit VSE 8.8 Policies

I don't believe that specific entry in orion log is going to give you cause.  There are most likely other errors.  First, what version VSE extension and what version of epo?  VSE has some issues with the access protection policies when some of the newer extensions are checked in.  Here is what we advise.

Enable logging unexpected errors - you do not need to put orion in debug mode, that sometimes gets too busy.
First do this:
1- Edit server\conf\orion\orion.properties
2- Replace 'orion.exception.show.detail=false' with 'orion.exception.show.detail=true'.  If by chance the line doesn't exist, you may need to add it.
3- Restart Tomcat (application server service).

Then reproduce the issue. Instead of "unexpected error" the console should give you a jstack trace.

Once you get further data, open a case with McAfee with the VirusScan team.  That is a point product extension issue, so it needs to go to the team that develops those.

Re: "An unexpected error occurred" when I'm trying to edit VSE 8.8 Policies

It should show on the console page where the unexpected error showed up originally, it should log the error instead.  It will also log in the orion log.
