Hi everyone ,
I am planning a migration from server 2003 to server 2008 r2 .
I've read all the mcafee migration / disaster recovery articals and it doesn't seem that hard .
My question is : Can i setup the new server while the old is still online ?
And when everything is ready i just export the recent database of the old and import it into the new.
Take the old one offline and give the new one the ip adress of the old server.
Where the agent should update when it makes contact with the new server thru ip .
All advise is welcome
The simplest thing is to install latest version of McAfee ePO on the new server.
When everything is set:
. you do not need even to migrate the database or giving the same ip to the new server.
What you can do simply is to transfer all the system, which is done with a simple click. I personnally tried it and its far more better and saves time and effort compared to the migration which could cause some unexpected problems or incompatibility of database especially if you are migrating from a sql express 2005 to 2008.
here is the KB : https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=KB79283
go through it and you will see within some click everything gonna be done.
PS : please take note that using transfer system will not move along logs of the servers. what you can do is to keep a backup of the old database just in case.
Remaining at your disposal for further help
thanks and best regards,
Thank u for the info . But what about installed extension ? do i need to install the manually again ?
I'm at the last step of the migration and have come to an issue where i need to generate a certificate.
When i run the command
Rundll32.exe ahsetup.dll RunDllGenCerts eposervername 8443 administrator password "C:\Program Files (x86)\McAfee\ePolicy Orchestrator\Apache2\conf\ssl.crt"
i get in the ahsetup log :
The agent handler failed to connect to the epo server.
what could i be doing wrong ?
Hi ddrive, why not install a new fresh ePO server on the W2008 box and then export system tree, policies, etc... and use the Transfer System option?
I think it would be easier than all the work you're doing
ddrive then you should consider upgrading EEPC to DE before migrating to a new server as the EEPC software has been discontinued for a long time (except the Safeboot version).
