ePO upgrade from 5.3.1 to 5.9.1 fails during install

Jump to solution

Preinstallation auditor runs successfully but when we attempt the upgrade itself, it fails to load the installed products.  Error states "Failed to load the list of installed products for your ePO installation.  Please check the admin name and password and try again."

The same credentials are used when i run the preinstallation auditor successfully.  I have updated the cypher suite using IISCrypto.  Not sure where to go next with this.

Server is running 2012R2 and SQL 2014.

It looks like the file productcompatibilitylist.xml is missing under ....\epo591l\upgradecompatibility . we updated successful, although we had no internet-access.

Solution: Set proxy to bypass specific domain (*.domain.com) instead of just local addresses.  This allowed me to move on to the next step.

Re: ePO upgrade from 5.3.1 to 5.9.1 fails during install

Try following this - our kb system is down, but here are the instructions.

Replace the ProductCompatibilityList.xml that ePO setup is using in the temporary files location:
  1. After encountering the failed Extension check-in, open the ePO setup log location: %temp%\McAfeeLogs or %programdata%\McAfee\ePolicy Orchestrator\InstallLogs
  2. Open the EPO5XX-Install-CustomAction.log in Notepad or any text viewer.
  3. Near the bottom, search for Calling ShowCPCWizard. The file path referenced after indicates the temporary file location of the ProductCompatibilityList.xml being used for the check.

    For example:
    15:25:26 ePO510CALog: Calling ShowCPCWizard(1, C:\Users\user1\AppData\Local\Temp\2\{806ACE6E-C694-43FE-A470-160A332D7AF9}\ProductCompatibilityList.xml, 0, 1, https://eposerver:8443/, user1, <password>)

  4. Replace the ProductCompatibilityList.xml in the indicated path with a newly downloaded copy from https://epo.mcafee.com/ProductCompatibilityList.xml.

NOTE: The file must be called ProductCompatibilityList.xml. Do not change the name of the file.

Re: ePO upgrade from 5.3.1 to 5.9.1 fails during install

The error in the cpcwiz.log states "Failed WinHttpSendRequest() Error: 12030".  Right above i see that the 'Server URL:' used is incorrect.  Our server url is 'https://servername:XXXX/core' and instead its attempting 'https://servername.domain.domain.com.'  Because of this, it then goes and attempts to hit the proxy even though we have the bypass local address setup as recommended.  Our server is not joined to the domain.  I think this could be the issue but i am not sure where to change this so the install attempts the correct url.

That was a simple yet powerful tip; it seems working for me and yes, I am happy to say that here.

BTW, how can i initiate the upgrade automatically? without making any kind of changes as instructed by you as it's not always a good thing to carryout manual tasks. I hope you understand.
