We are running ePO 4.6.9 on Windows Server 2008 R2 (64-bit) and are looking to upgrade to ePO 5.3. Can the upgrade to 5.3 be performed directly, or do we need to install 5.0 or 5.1 first? The installation guide does not state that this is required but I want to be certain. Other than following the checklist (McAfee KnowledgeBase - ePolicy Orchestrator 5.x installation/patch upgrade checklist for known issue...), are there any special considerations to be aware of? Thank you.
No by "KB" I meant the Upgrade Checklist that you posted. The 5.1/5.3 guides don't mention 4.6.9 because an upgrade attempt will fail which is why the upgrade path is not supported. 4.6.9 can only upgrade to 5.1.2 at this time.
At the end of your response to ladysue, you ended it with "at this time". Does that mean that there is some development in the works that would allow us to upgrade a 4.6.9 ePO instance directly to ePO 5.3?
And if not, is there a technical reason why this upgrade path is not available?
No 4.6.9 will never be able to upgrade to 5.3.0 but 5.3.1 will most likely allow it. Yes there is a technical reason why the upgrade paths only allow certain versions to go to certain version. In this specific case I believe 4.6.9 was not released when 5.3 was developed so the database table changes among other things in 4.6.9 would not be compatible with the installer for 5.3 and therefore would fail.
