ePO 4.5 does not detect new systems on the network.

Hello,

I've taken over a Mcafee EPO Server with about 25 clients.  New systems on the network are not detected by the ePO.  The local firewall on the windows system is disabled.  All new clients are Windows XP sp3.

Is there something that needs to be done on the server or cleint side to enable this feature?

Thanks!

Yes, there's quite a bit that needs to be done. The part of ePO that detects machines is called Rogue System Detection or RSD. In a nutshell, you need to deploy at least one sensor and configure it, but depending on your environment there may be more to it than that.

I'd strongly recommend having a look at the "Detecting Rogue Systems" section of the ePO 4.5 Product Guide - it should tell you everything you need to know

Apart from RSD, you can also configure the AD Syncro, this will create the machine object according to the systems register in AD. However they will be defined as Unmanaged to which you will have to configure a Agent deployment task to manage them.

Not quite - if the machines are unmanaged, they won't have an agent installed, so there will be nothing to run a deployment task. You'll need to do a push agent install instead (assuming you want to install an agent on them, as opposed to simply detecting them )
