ePO 4.0 on VM

Does anyone have experience with ePO 4.0 and SQL 2005 running together on a single VM? Or should they be on separate VM's? Our infrastructure team says one VM will be more than adequate. We have 14,000 nodes and are about to begin testing ePO 4.0. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

RE: ePO 4.0 on VM

McAfee recommends seperating SQL from ePO when managing over 5,000 nodes. So in your case it would be best to seperate those tasks.

Running a database environment within VM isn't the best configuration anyways. Databases perform better on physical servers, for what i've heard.

If you do want to combine both tasks, make sure to limit the amount of memory SQL uses to max. 2/3 of the total amount of memory. This again is a standard recommendation from McAfee.

RE: ePO 4.0 on VM

Microsoft doesn't support virtualized SQL servers therefore, McAfee doesn't either.
You can run EPO 4.0 on a VM but you must have a 'real' SQL server.

RE: ePO 4.0 on VM

Just for information, McAfee Support has confirmed the following:

- SQL 2005 is supported on VM
- ePO 4.0 and SQL 2005 on a single VM is supported

RE: ePO 4.0 on VM

In speaking with a McAfee Engineer a couple of weeks ago, he said that EPO will run in a VM. In our environiment, I refuse to let the server guys virtualize my EPO box. I AM going to create a image for fall-over/disaster recovery purposes but that is all.

Running EPO4 here in a VM (esx) with SQL on the same server - quad dual-core, 4gb machine. Runs like a bomb!

RE: ePO 4.0 on VM

I run ePO on Microsoft Virtual Server with no problem. My database is setting on a 2005 SQL cluster.

No issues.

RE: ePO 4.0 on VM

We're running EPO4 and SQL 2005 on a single Hyper V based server and its working flawlessly.

RE: ePO 4.0 on VM

Been told by Mcafee that EPO 4.0 isnt supported on VM 3.5 esx, until Patch 3 comes out
