VSE Install fails

Attempting to install VSE agent from the EPO fails on a specific client with an unknown error and I'm trying to pin down why.

Looking at the agent logs on the affected system it appears to be communicating with the EPO system and the client task succeeds with other machines.

Re: VSE Install fails

Hello,

Thanks for your post!

I would like to request you to please let me know:

Agent Version?

OS Version on VSE is getting installed?

Whether you are using Run Client Task now or Scheduled task?

We need the complete sets of logs to check the issue.

You can check the mcscrip.log as well.

I would recommend you to open a new service request with the Technical Support Team to check the issue.

If you are posting the logs here please make sure that you are removing the IP DNS etc from the logs before posting it.

Re: VSE Install fails

Task is scheduled to run on system start but I have also pushed out the task via Run Client Now (gets to 2 bars and then fails)

EPO is 5.9.1

Agent is 5.5.0447

VSE is 8.8

This is a Windows 7 machine as are the others on the EPO portal

Re: VSE Install fails

What do you see in Mcscript log under <programdata>/McAfee/Agent.

Hope you would have gone through the below article.

Re: VSE Install fails

I've been through the article but there is not much about VSE, the agent itself is on the system and the system showing as Managed on the EPO portal.

Attached the log.

Re: VSE Install fails

The given screenshot do not have any information. However i will walk you through to check the logs.

First check masvc log and note down the timestamp of Task start/End time. Second check McScript log which matches the timestamp in Masvc and read the complete flow till the end. You would get some idea.

Also check mfemactl log, there might be some DLL hooking which might cause the deployment failure. Just incase if you have difficulties, please raise an SR with support.

Re: VSE Install fails

Hi @Art1234,

The submitted file does not contain any error.

Reason: The timestamp of failed task is around 10:00 AM 21 Nov where as this log starts around 21 Nov 10:00 PM there by failing to have any records of the failure.

If you are not comfortable digging into the logs, have you tried reaching out to us via Service Request? We can have a look into the logs via the Service Request and possible assist you via remote session as well!

Re: VSE Install fails

The mcscript log shows 2019-11-22 09:38:14 I #1184 ScrptMgr Error occurred while installing VIRUSCAN8800.

That means the agent part of the task was successful, but the VSE install failed for other reasons.  To find that reason, you need to go to the VSE install logs, which are located in windows\temp\mcafeelogs.

Please also be careful posting any data here - make sure any sensitive info such as IP, system names, etc are removed prior to uploading here on a public forum.

Re: VSE Install fails

This will tell you how to troubleshoot update/deployment issues.  In this case, it is beyond the agent and now an issue with the point product itself.  This will also show you what logs to look at for that and where to find them.  You would look for the vse install logs to see why it failed.
