UpdaterUI.exe WERFault

Server 2012R2
Citrix VAD 1903 (XenApp)

After updating to McAfee Agent 5.6.1.157 in VDI Mode our users started to receive Windows WER faults at logon regarding updaterui.exe crashing.

We have disabled the tray UI via ePO Policy but this seems to make no difference.

This is happening across multiple Windows images.

Anybody else seeing this, or any ideas?

Plan to downgrade the agent shortly but thought would ask here first.

Try following this kb first to see if it helps - KB50315.  If that doesn't help, then we will need a process dump of the process crashing along with a mer to open a ticket with.  That KB doesn't refer to crashes, but it does refer to using the agent on a Citrix server.

Thanks for replying.

I can see updaterui.exe in the HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run key.  I could remove it, I am unsure if it does anything other than show the systemtray icon/menu?

I am downgrading (/forceuninstall and then install 5.6.0.878) on one of the images so will see if that makes any difference too.

It won't affect anything but the system tray icon, so it is safe to remove that.  However please do NOT install the .878 build of the agent - refer to kb91418.

Nice thanks for that.  I see on the product downloads site the next available version prior to 5.6.1.157 is 5.6.0.702 - that one OK to use?
