Tag based deployment (ePO v5.9)

Jump to solution

I'm curious to know if anyone is using tag-based deployment based on the below criteria:

1. Machine "A" checks into ePO - machine is missing McAfee DLP product

2.  ePO immediately applies a tag ("DLP-missing") to machine "A".

4. Deployment task is setup in ePO to deploy (immediately) DLP based on the Tag.

Your help is much appreciated.

Thanks for the tip.

I usually create a task under "client task catalog", I never used this feature, again thank you.

We have a server task that runs a query to see if a particular product is not installed.  If it isn't, it then runs a sub-action to apply a tag.  We then have a continuous product deploytment targeting those tags.

Works pretty well.

Thanks, mlajoie. I was able to set-up most per your suggestions, except I have one question:

Do you mind elaborating below?  I'm curious to know what settings you're using under "schedule type"

"We then have a continuous product deployment targeting those tags."

Thanks again.

Sure.

  • Under menu | software | product deloyment
  • create a new deployment
  • fill out the deployment information as appropriate for what you need - ensuring you select the product(s) you want to install and the tag(s) you want to target.
  • When complete, click on save (at the top) and you should be golden!

Hope that helps.

What mlajoie suggested will work.  Tag criteria in epo versions 5.9.1 and below are only based on system properties, not any installed products.  However, with epo 5.10, that adds the functionality to now tag on a product property.  So that would be an immediate tagging, whereas running a server task to apply manually based on a query is dependent on the task schedule.

to follow up on this question, if a task is set with tags and applied to a sub folder, does it only affect that subfolder or will it affect all systems in epo.

folder 1

     |__ folder 2 [task with tags applied here, does it affect systems in folder 1?]

                 |___ folder 3

Thanks.

Any assigned client task or policy at a sub group level will affect only that sub group (and any sub groups of that group), but none above.
