Tag a system from the client Endpoint?

Jump to solution

Looking through all the command line options for the McAfee Agent I can't see any way to tag a system locally from the endpoint. Has someone been able to do this?

Use Case:
Many of the system builders don't have access to the ePO console to manually tag a system to install Endpoint Security and the auto-tagging only runs once an hour (Too long when they are trying to get a machine out the door). They wan't to be able to install the McAfee Agent and Endpoint Security immediately, so I'd like for them to be able to tag a machine after the agent is installed and wake up the agent to install everything else. (Only the agent is installed as part of the imaging process).

Reply : Another option is have a client task assign to your system tree where client task will deploy Endpoint security immediately when a mcafee agent checks in. You create the Mcafee agent on a new system tree OU which has the client task assigned. As soon you system builder install the mcafee agent and wakes up, it will check into EPO and client task will kick off to install the ENS immediately.

Tagging is not an agent or client side function.  It is only epo server side function.  The agent has no knowledge of any tags or even that they exist.

Long short, you could use the custom properties as there are 8 properies in EPO. Mcafee Agent stores them in a regkey. You can write a script to add your data (tag - or what every you wish) to a custom proper 1, then you can have EPO server task to run something when custom prop get your data.

Hope it make sense?
