Remote Console - cannot log into ePO 3.6.1 (Vista)

Hello All,

Wonder if someone can assist me please. I am running Vista Business edition, and have been able to log into ePO 3.6.1 without any issues.

Recently I installed HP Web JetAdmin, which has installed SQL Server 2005 Express onto my PC. Since the installation of this I am unable to log into ePO 3.6.1.

Attempting to log on, I'm prompted with the error: "The user name or password you have entered is invalid. Please enter the correct account info before attempting to log on again".

I'm happy that the details I'm logging on with are correct, as if I really do put in the wrong details I receive a different error.

I've tried both my domain based logon, and the ePO Admin user (ie non-domain). My same details can be used to log onto a remote console running on another machine.

The extract from the console log shows:

20071106080731 I #7200 ePO Console AVIView Initialized
20071106080737 I #7992 ePO Console Calling CoInitialize in WorkerThread
20071106080737 I #7992 McUpload Start http session login...
20071106080737 I #7992 McUpload Successfully disabled CA trust options.
20071106080737 I #7992 McUpload End http session login, status=0
20071106080737 I #7992 McUpload CA trust has already been set.
20071106080737 I #7992 McUpload Http response status code = 200
20071106080737 I #7992 ePO Console Calling CoUninitialize in WorkerThread
20071106080745 I #7200 DAL Adding user token to user token map
20071106080745 E #7200 DAL COM Error :80004005 DAL2_CConnection::Connect
20071106080745 E #7200 DAL Meaning = Unspecified error
20071106080745 E #7200 DAL Source = Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server
20071106080745 E #7200 DAL Description = Login failed for user '(null)'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.
20071106080745 E #7200 DAL User not found
20071106080750 I #7200 DAL Removing user token from user token map

I can contact to the ePO database from my machine from within Excel, so it appears that my SQL Connectivity is working.

I can find some references to this error in the Mcafee Knowledgebase - but these don't seem to apply to the problem.

ePO Server:
OS: Windows Server 2003 SP2
ePO: 3.6.1 Patch 2

Database Server:
OS: Windows Server 2003 SP2
SQL: SQL Server 2000

Client:
OS: Vista Business
ePO: 3.6.1 Patch 2

Anyone any thoughts. As I say, it seems to start with the local installation of MS SQL Server 2005 Express, but this could just be a red-herring.

Thanks

Iain.

RE: Remote Console - cannot log into ePO 3.6.1 (Vista)

I assume you are fine logging onto the EPO server if you RDP into the actual server rather than use the console on the vista pc?

RE: Remote Console - cannot log into ePO 3.6.1 (Vista)

Yes - I can logon on just fine from other remote consoles and from the console installed on the server.

Thanks

RE: Remote Console - cannot log into ePO 3.6.1 (Vista)

Its lost the connection to the database from that pc, easiest would be to just reinstall the console on the pc surely?

RE: Remote Console - cannot log into ePO 3.6.1 (Vista)

Sadly tried that, and got the same result.

RE: Remote Console - cannot log into ePO 3.6.1 (Vista)

are you logging into epo using epo user or sql user?

RE: Remote Console - cannot log into ePO 3.6.1 (Vista)

This would happen to me when the Windows NT Service Account used for the SQL DB Connection got locked out. I would check the account lock out first if thats how you authenticate to the DB.

Hey All,

Sorry for the delay in returning to this thread.

I've actually now solved this.

The problem was due to Vista Local Security Policy. The option "Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level" had become set to "Send NTLMv2 Response Only".

Changing this back to "Send NTLM response only" fixed the isssue.

Thanks for your assistance.

I have the same issue. I recently upgraded my server with 3.6.1 Patch 3. I can successfully login via RDP to the server's console. However I cannot connect using a local console on my Vista Enterprise Machine. I looked through the local policies on my machine and changed it back to Send NTLM Reposnse only. I still have the same problems.

The Server is not responding. Please verify the following:

1. Logon information is correct.
2. The network is running correctly
3. ePolicy Orchestrator server is running.

Thanks
