Regarding Encryption time in Drive Encryption 7.1.1

Hi,

Scenario-- We installed Drive Encryption 7.1.1 Software in one of the Machine (500 GB Hard Disk) and then it gets activated and going to Encrypt the Hard Drive.

How many it take time to Encrypt the Hard disk if the Hard disk Data Consumed 10% ?

How many it take time to Encrypt the Hard disk if the Hard disk Data Consumed 90% ?

Thanks

Snehdeep

Re: Regarding Encryption time in Drive Encryption 7.1.1

Hi,

this heavily depends upon the speed of the HDD (or SSD), the CPU and/or if the disk has a builtin hardware-based encryption (OPAL).

Frank

Re: Regarding Encryption time in Drive Encryption 7.1.1

Sometime between a few minutes to a couple of hours depending on the speed of the system, whether it supports AES-NI, OPAL etc, and whether you use Fast Initial Encryption or not.

Is the speed important, or is your question just out of interest?

Thanks for Reply,

My question is that the Encryption Speed is variable in below both cases ???

1) If  there is fullof Data in Hard disk.

2) And there is Empty Hard disk

Re: Regarding Encryption time in Drive Encryption 7.1.1

The amount of data only matters if you're using fast initial encryption. Otherwise, every sector needs to be encrypted, regardless of whether it's in use or not.
