Just out of curiosity, is there any particular reason why a DB backup is strongly recommended before a extra.dat check-in? KB67602 (Aug 16, 2012).
I'm not entirely sure: it may just be caution on the part of the author. It's not a bad precaution, but I can't think of anything inherently dangerous in the extra.dat checkin process.
Cheers Joe, thats what I thought. Unfortunately its a precaution that has added a substantial amount of time to the check-in process now, as further work and resource requests have to go in - the joys of enterprise environments!!
That's clearly not ideal. Let me see if I can confirm the requirement and, if it's just advisory, you can drop the backup from your workflow.
Do you get many EDs to check in? Some people do, some don't...
Cheers Joe - not uber critical as this is actually the first extra.dat I have ever really come across, so no - I dont get too many to check in :-)
