Problem Agent 4.6 P3 w/ embedded Credentials

Hello,

we have problems creating a Framepkg.exe for deployment with Agent 4.6 P3 (w/ embedded credetials).

It's possible to download Framepkg.exe from EPO (via new systems), but when executing this file the following warning is shown:

"Please verify the embedded credentials are correct"

We doublechecked the credetials, but they are correct. With Agent 4.6 P2 Framepkg.exe is working fine.

I'm open for any suggestions or recommendations.

Thank you!

Re: Problem Agent 4.6 P3 w/ embedded Credentials

Are you really selecting the embedded credentials agent when creating the new package? Maybe you have both standard and embedded credentials and you're selecting the wrong one.

I'm telling this because this message usually appeared when using credentials on a non-embedded credential package

Re: Problem Agent 4.6 P3 w/ embedded Credentials

Hello,

yes, I'm sure - I doublechecked this again. We're using the version with embedded credentials.

As far as I remember the waring is slightly diffrent when using the wrong version, something like "Package does not allow embedded credetials".

Is it working for you to create an embedded package with Agent 4.6 P3?

Thanks

Re: Problem Agent 4.6 P3 w/ embedded Credentials

Hello,

i have the same problem!

I checked in the following package:

"McAfee Agent for Windows (Embedded credentials) 4.6.0.3122"

When i install get the following message-box and the setup stops:

"Please verify the embedded credentials are correct"

But the embedded credentials are ok.

Agent-Version: McAfee Agent for Windows (Embedded credentials)

Domain: SampleDomain

User: SampleUser
Password: SamplePassword
The credentials above are samples only!

Where is my mistake?

Thank you very much!

Re: Problem Agent 4.6 P3 w/ embedded Credentials

Hello,

in our case, the problem occured, because the Framepkg.exe was started from a mapped network drive.

The mapped drive letter is not accessible for the embedded credentials.

When opened with UNC Path, the Framepkg.exe worked fine.

We created a batch file, to start Framepkg.exe with UNC Path.

Best regards

Re: Problem Agent 4.6 P3 w/ embedded Credentials

Hi mk,

thank you very much, but this is not the right solution for my problem.
I copied the framepkg.exe (with embedded credentials) to my local disk and it still didn't work.

But I think the credentials are not necessary because i distribute the agent with Microsoft SMS and i think that in this case the sms-package will be executed with the system-account. So i can use a Framepkg.exe without credentials.
The first test ist still running....

Thank you very much!

Re: Problem Agent 4.6 P3 w/ embedded Credentials

Yes! It works!

SMS distributes the Framepkg.exe without embedded credentials, when it installs with system-account.

I'm happy!

Thank you!

Re: Problem Agent 4.6 P3 w/ embedded Credentials

I would advise everyone to avoid embedded credentials whenever possible as a) it is less secure than other methods, b) the package is bulkier, and, c) as you have found, there is usually a better, more secure, more reliable way to install available.

Re: Problem Agent 4.6 P3 w/ embedded Credentials

Hi

I have exactly the same problem.

I only use package with embedded credentials because sometimes our Desktop Support team need to run the package installer from say a PC / Laptop they are building, also If I build a server it is easier to run the package from a UNC path to install the agent, then waking it up rather than going into EPO and creating the object and pushing the agent out.

I know the credentials I use are correct, but more often than not it complains....

"Please verify the embedded credentials are correct"

I don't think either you or anyone else have given an adequate answer on why this could be happening other than stating how less secure this method is.

I know it is less secure but if mcafee is providing this method of installing the agent, it should work, and if it doesn't a solution should be provided to see why it isn't working.

This problem has existed since Mcafee Agent version 4.0.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Failing that I will log a call with Mcafee

Regards

Ken
