Move Only ePO Database

I currently have ePO 4.0 and SQL runningon the same server.

Dual 3.7GHZ 4GB Ram

C: ePO App/SQL App 15GB
😧 SQL Database 130GB

7500 NODES

This was a test system but now it looks like since our ePO 3.6 is dying we need to move everyone over. McAfee's recommendation is to have ePO and the SQL on separate Servers.

I have a SQL Farm with the following Specs:

SPACE: 2TB
OS: Windows 2003 64bit Enterprise
MEMORY: 64GB RAM
PROCESSOR: 4 QuadCore
CONFIG: Clustered - Active/Passive
SQL: SQL 2005 Enterprise 64bit

I want to move the ePO Database only to the SQL Farm while leaving the ePO App on the existing server.

I couldnt find a KB Article that does this. Anyone have any comments?

RE: Move Only ePO Database

to do this:
stop mcafee services on ePO app
copy epo DB (mdf and ldf) files to your new SQL destination
on new SQL create user for EPO (I use local SQL account with password that include only numbers and letters - some bug on Mcafee side, dont remember why), attach those files, assign DBO permissions to this user.

on your ePO app server:
start services:
Go to this URL in ePolicy Orchestrator: http://server/core/config
In the Configure Database Settings page, scroll down and change the credentials as
needed.
Click OK when done.
Restart the system to apply the changes.

if everything working fine you will able to remove SQL from same server

RE: Move Only ePO Database

After trying your suggestion, it seems that the Mcafee epolicy orchestrator services depends on the SQL Server instance.

so removing sql will screw up the epo installation (i had a backup happy ) and trying to stop it manually will also stop the 3 mcafee services.

checking the core/config - it looks correct. any suggestions?

Same Problem EPO 4.5 Moving Database

I install EPO 4.5 - Application and SQL DB on same Maschine.

i want to move the database to a remote SQL Server.
i make a backup und restore the db on the remote SQL Server.
local SQL user has DBO rights für the epo DB

i restart the epo server and make the change for the new SQL server, Test for connection was fine.
restart the server and no epo login possible.

here a log error entry:

Description = [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied

but with SQL Management Studio using the same DB User, i have access to the EPO_DB...

anyone a idea?
