Migration settings from ePO 5.3.1 to 5.9 (new server)

Having some difficulties upgrading ePO to a later version.

First attempted to upgrade from 5.3.1 to 5.3.3 - issues with ciphers - attempted using KB89291 to address issue - unsuccessful.

Read that is it possible to install ePO 5.9 on a new server (Windows 2016 / SQL Server 2016 SP2) and migrate the settings from ePO 5.3.1 from old server (WIndow 2008 R2 / SQL Server 2008 R2).

Attempted to use the migration method detailed in post below, but could not make access ePO console.

What is the best method to obtain the end result - moving settings from ePO 5.3.1 to ePO 5.9.x on a new server?

When you upgrade from 5.3.x to 5.9.1 There is an issue where the McAfee Agent client will not communicate with ePO. If you follow the steps in https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=kb66616 to remove the old SSL cert and install a new cert that will correct the issue. 

 

If you apply ePO 5.9.1 Hotfix 1226775, this should also correct an issue with doing an upgrade. The reason the client isnt communicating is that when you do a fresh installation of ePO 5.9.1 the ePO server is set to use SHA-2, where when you upgrade from 5.1 or 5.3 (which use SHA-1) , without the hotfix your clients will stop communicating to ePO.
