Microsoft Windows Defender Disabled

Jump to solution
Following the installation and configuration of MFE ePOlicy Orchestrator, Windows defender has been uninstalled; Presently our Nessus vulnerability scan reports the following finding: - Windows Defender Antimalware/Antivirus Signature Definition Check (103569) . We would like to know what risk there is to have Windows defender enabled along with MFE anti-virus, and also how we should address this finding. Thanks.

Ouor best practice is to disable any other AntiVirus as this can cause various issues especially performance issues. Microsoft would need to advise on how best to do this though.

If the systems are 2016 Servers then you may find this helpful though:

https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=KB82761 >> Supported Microsoft Windows Server operating systems

"ENS does not disable Windows Defender on Windows Server 2016. This fact could lead to performance issues, but this possibility has not been confirmed. The best practice is to run a single real-time anti-virus solution. For updates to this issue and for instructions to manually disable Windows Defender using PowerShell, see known issue 1149046 in KB82450."
