McAfee agent summary report: some systems showing blank version

After ePO database migration and ePO upgradation, McAfee agent version showing as blank for some systems
(first SQL migrated from 2012 to 2016 and then ePO upgraded from 5.3.2 to 5.9.1)

Observation:

1.On a ePO console, when we go to issue system details> under installed product details, agent status appear as uninstalled but on a physical system agent application is up and running.
2.Same systems are repeatedly appearing in blank agent versions list even after multiple agent wake call.

3. For some systems agent and installed products information doe not appear.

Troubleshooting steps followed:

3.Locally force installed the agent on existing agent (from command prompt) - but after sometime it reappeared in blank agent version list
4.It is the same case with force installing from ePO console - after sometime it reappeared in blank agent version list
5.Manually force uninstalled the agent and forceinstalled the agent (from command prompt) on one of the issue system - after sometime it reappeared in blank agent version list

Is there any problem with SQL upgradation from 2012 to 2016 as ePO 5.3.2 does not appear in SQL 2016 supported list?

Appreciate for any help.

Re: McAfee agent summary report: some systems showing blank version

That is a possibility that could cause some issues.  My recommendation would be to get epo back on a 2012 sql server with a snapshot recovery to get epo back to 5.3.2.  Then upgrade epo first since 2012 is supported with 5.9.1.  Once you get it upgraded with a supported sql version on the original 5.3.2 and upgraded, then you can upgrade sql last.  The backup would have to be from before you upgraded sql.

Thank you for your response.

One more thing what we have observed is :

- SQL Leafnodes table shows agent version of affected systems but the same is not getting populated on ePO console.

- Wakecall /force install resolves the issue temporarily.

Re: McAfee agent summary report: some systems showing blank version

What agent version?  The 5.0.6.220 agent has some known issues with the process crashing, which would hinder communication, property collection, policy enforcement, etc.  If you look at the known issues kb's for the versions of agents, you will see what agent you might want to use.  I would recommend the latest 5.5.1, but fully test before upgrading your entire environment.

You might want to open a ticket with McAfee so we can review logs.  We would need to see client and server logs since communication can fail on either end.
