There are several KB's for service crashing issues.  Please see if any of these apply.  If not, you will need to open a ticket with McAfee support for root cause of the crashing.

Hello,

we have exactly the same problem here.

McAfee Agent 5.0.6.220 and the "McAfee Agent service" is not starting automatically.on some clients. It is getting worse because there are daily new clients not communicating with epo any more. Also updates fail on this clients.

This is not funny with 100´s of clients!!!

OS is Windows 7 and Windows 10 1703

Same here.

Too bad you now have to set up a procdump on all your systems so that in case you can fetch the error.

What a bullshit McAfee...

Does anyone know of an external solution that is capable of checking the agentservice? How would you tell if the device just wasn´t turnde on or if the agent isn´t working?

We have a lot of devices outside of our company network.

So for all you people out there having the same problems I have the solution:

It´s by now a known problem to McAfee. They are currently facing issues when you have client-tasks enabled that will run on system startup.

In some, not known, circumstances this will cause the agent-service to crash.

The problem is under investigation.

In the meantime one should either disable the tasks or change the shedule.

Got this from the german support after facing them with this problem.

It would really been of help if the moderators here working for McAfee would have let us know.

The suggested solution with the procdump didn´t even work due to access-restrictions. And even if: how are you supposed to run in on like 1000 clients and manage all that for days or even weeks?

I´m sorry but this realy upsets me.

AS Dan mentioned that other services are running at startup.  Has anyone tried to set the McAfee Agent service to run as a "delayed" start when the systems start up.  This would allow the other services to ruyn at start up and then when most of them are up and functioning the  McAfee Agent service starts.  This would reduce the possiblility of the services clashing.

We have exactly the same Problem with Agent 5.0.6.220. We tried Agent 5.5.0.447. A few days it was ok, but then the Agent Services stopped again....

Please open a ticket with McAfee.  There is a hotfix available that resolves service crashing or not starting for the 5.0.6 agent.
