Hi jkaipa,

system.importSystems is used just to import flat systems into ePO system tree through Web API scripting. It depends how you are going to manage your environment and the preferred method of deploying agent on client machine. There are various method to manage your systems.

* AD Sync, Manual agent installation, Import systems into ePO than push Agent (which you mentioned).

Some customers prefer AD sync to import all systems from AD. Some customers install Agent manually on client machine and then manage from ePO or import a system details via txt file and than Push Agent.

Ex : Consider there are 100 new machines provisioned in your environment. You do not have AD sync configured in EPO and you do not want to install Agent manually on each system and it is time consuming. In that case, just enter all the system details in notepad and import and then push Agent game over. Hope this information may helpful.

The SYSTEMS option under Systems from menu gives you the list of machines reporting to the ePO Server.

Import Systems is the option to import a list of systems from a text file.

This option can be access by clicking New Systems in System Tree and selecting Import systems from a text file into the current group (My Organization), but do not push agents

Create a text file of the NetBIOS names for your network systems that you want to import into a group. You can import a flat list of systems, or organize the systems into groups.
Define the groups and their systems by typing the group and system names in a text file. Then import that
information into McAfee ePO.

Regardless of how you generate the text file, you must use the correct syntax before importing it.

Task
1 List each system on its own line. To organize systems into groups, type the group name followed by a backslash (\), then list the system belonging to that group, each on a separate line.

GroupA\system1
GroupA\system2
GroupA\GroupB\system3
GroupC\GroupD

2 Verify the names of groups and systems, and the syntax of the text file, then save the text file to a temporary
folder on your server.

Import systems and groups from a text file

Import systems or groups of systems into the System Tree from a text file you have created and saved.

Task
1 Open the New Systems page.
a Select Menu | Systems | System Tree.
b Click New Systems.
2 Select Import systems from a text file into the selected group, but do not push agents.
3 Select whether the import file contains:
• Systems and System Tree Structure
• Systems only (as a flat list)
4 Click Browse, then select the text file.
5 Select what to do with systems that already exist elsewhere in the System Tree.
6 Click OK.

The systems are imported to the selected group in the System Tree. If your text file organized the systems into groups, the server creates the groups and imports the systems

If you specify sort criteria on the groups the agents register the systems into appropriate group of the system tree. My question remains on why system.importSystem to be used?

Is system.importSystem used only to organize the systems into their appropriate groups?
