How do you use query results as arguments for Server Task, Actions

Jump to solution

I have a query for systems that have a named Tag.  I use a Server task to email the results, which give the System name and IP address

I would like to add the system names on the subject line of the email.

I would also like to use the results to Run External Command, but have not found a way to fill in the Arguments.

I have used the syntax that Automatic Response {sourceIPV4}, but this does not translate

We don't have a lot of internal documentation on it either.  What I would recommend is to open a ticket with McAfee so we can get a request in to dev for how this is supposed to function.

It isn't designed to take arguments like that.  That would be a PER.  See KB60021.  The run external command option availability would depend on the query type you are running.  Some query type actions are limited, so you would have to test around.  A table type is the best type query to take an action on.

I am using a Table for results;  this passes the System name and IP address to the following Server Tasks actions
1) Run Client Task Now (run a managed virus scan)

2) Send email with the information

3) Wake up the Agent to perform tasks from first Action

4) Clear the Tag

But the fifth item, Run External Command, gets none of the information passed to it, yet it has a "Arguments" field.  I would us the IP address to copy the OnDemandScan log to see details.

Every thing is quite handy in automating this...but i have to manually check the result of action is step 1.  This action could take up to 20 minutes...

This is ePO v5.3.2 still using the agent v5.5 and VSE v8.8

Under registered executables, did you test your executable and it run succesfully?

Yes testing works.  The executable write the argument to a log file...{sourceIPV4} shows up in the logs...it is not translated...

Just wondering all the internal actions know what system to act on, but the information sharing to the Run External command is not automatic and not documented...
