Help! MCShield.exe taking 50% + CPU on Terminal Server since Patch 6......

Hi folks,

Since updating to VSE 8.5i Patch 6, the MCShield process is taking over 50% of the Terminal Server CPU at times, which is causing considerable slowdown for my users. Does anybody have any ideas on how ti fix this other than rolling back to patch 5?

Cheers, Jay.

RE: Help! MCShield.exe taking 50% + CPU on Terminal Server since Patch 6......

I have had identical problem, vscan ent 8.5i, just upgraded to patch 6. 50% cpu grabbed by mcshield process.

Mine has not been on terminal servers, but on sporadic _seemingly_ random workstations across the network.

Real pain given Mcafee Service\Process protection! (but given benefit of process protection I can live with it).

Seems to have calmed down now though, as far as i know it only occured the first couple of days after patch 6 was rolled out. No screaming users or helpdesk staff anymore!

Same issue here.... and it doesn't seem to have been resolved in the 6.1 patch sad

We have been tracking that under the post for the Patch 6 release under the VScan section.

The current official work around from McAfee is to reboot. This is obviously not a possibility for critical systems. The work around I have discovered is to:

1 - Disable Access Protection
2 - Disable On-Acess Scanner
3 - Terminate all mcshield.exe processes.
4 - Enable On-Access Scanner
5 - Enable Access Protection

I have yet to discover a way to to terminate the process remotely. Epo can be used to send a policy to disable/enable AP and OAS
