Re: HELP ! Migration from ePO 4.5.7 to 5.0.1

Hi Raghavendra,

Please allow me to fill in a few blanks and give you a full overview of our environment...

- Current ePO server is a windows 2003, x86, SP2, virtual server with SQL express 2008 RTM installed. (version 10.0.1600.22)

- The new server to eventually host ePO 5 is a windows 2008 R2 x64 server, SQL and ePO are not installed on the server yet... I am guessing it would be OK to install SQL express 2008 R2 RTM ???

We are not using any EEPC products within the organisation, that I am aware of... I am quite new to administering ePO.

- EPO DB size is 7.02GB and Log file is 910MB.

- Main products we are using with our ePO are : Agent (version 4.6), VSE 8.8, Anti-Spam 2.2, Antispyware 8.7 (should you need more information no problem).

- 875 managed devices, 1133 total device count.

Thank you in advance for your advice and guidance, should you need any further information please just ask.

Kind regards,

Lee.

Re: HELP ! Migration from ePO 4.5.7 to 5.0.1

As per your update.

>> You can install the SQL 2008 R2 Express version on new server without EPO

http://www.microsoft.com/en-in/download/details.aspx?id=30438

The file name: "SQLEXPRWT_x64_ENU.exe" and the size: 340.5 MB ( this file contains the management studio too).

>> Install the sql on new server and then Go to old EPO server and open the sql management studio and select the EPO DB and backup.

>> Then click on the EPO DB and click on "Deattach" and then copy the mdf and ldf files to new epos erver.

Once you copied the files, Then click on databases from the old EPO server and select option "Attach" and add the db back to same position on old epo server.

NOTE: The above, step helps to revert back the old EPO in working condition as normal, this is very important, if you are new to EPO.

>> Once you follow the above steps, then check the document shared in previous post, to remove the dependencies for EPO services for local SQL server and then restart the old epo server.

NOte: WHile removing the dependencies from registry, the registry backup is mandatory.

>> Then you can open the Https://localhost:8443/core/config page on old epo server to change the authentication and port with DB server IP or hostname to contact EPO with remote sql server.

Note: Before open the above page, copy the db.properties file to desktop.

Located:  < EPO installed path>\Server\orion\conf\orion

From the new SQL installation, open the sql server configuration manager  and select the Protocols for ( Instance name) --Check the protocols name ( name pipes, TCP/IP and shared memory) is enabled.

By default all are disabled with new installation.

>> Enable all the options and then Go to services and  select SQL service and restart the service.

This helps to generate the dynamic port for TCP/IP protocol.... ( To confirm open the same path and double click on TCP/IP  and click on IP Addresses == Scroll down and from the IP ALL tab: TCP Dynamic Ports ( XXXX) port number will be visible.

>> You have to update this port number from the core/config page.

Moreover, it is better to go for sql authentication and for creating new sql user Ex: eposa), please check the attached document...

Once you completed this task, then run the "upgrade compatibility tool " On old EPO server and make a note of ( 65000 files should be max in EPO folder).

>> If this fails, follow the KB71078 to move EPO from 32 to 64 bit os and then inplace upgrade from 4.5.7 to 5.0.1.

Note: Any upgrade or Migrate EPO, I suggest to follow the KB71825 EPOchecklist and backup epo folder and EPO DB as this is recommended.

I hope this helps, if you still find issues, reply to this post.

Regards,

Raghavendra GC
