Firewall policy takes 20 minutes to render

Jump to solution

We have two environments. (Will leave out some product info since it's not relevant)

Environment 1:

20,000 nodes

ENS 10.5.3

Firewall policy was migrated over the years from Desktop Firewall v8.x to HIPS 7 to HIPS 8 and finally ENS 10.5.3

Firewall policy has roughly 400 rules

When you open the ENS firewall policy, it pops up on the screen within seconds after clicking it.

Environment 2:

40,000 nodes

ENS 10.5.3

Firewall policy was created from scratch with HIPS 7 then migrated to HIPS 8 then migrated to ENS 10.5.3. (While we were using HIPS 8, we started to make heavy use of the IPS catalog.)

Firewall policy has roughly 350 rules.

Problem: as time has gone on, opening the firewall policy has gotten slower and slower. When using HIPS 8, it would take 5, 10, 15 minutes to render. But now, with ENS, it's taking about 20 minutes before it renders to the screen. We're currently working with McAfee on this issue and don't have a solution yet. Both ePO databases are on the same server and both databases are ROUGHLY the same size (I think Environment 1 is slightly bigger).

Has anyone else experienced horribly slow render times when opening the firewall policy?

We opened an SR a few months ago. It's making slow progress. Just thought I'd post on here to see if anyone else ever ran into the same issue.

What version of epo?  There is kb86385 issue that is fixed in 5.3.2, and KB80102.  ENS firewall rules are based on HIPS, so this may have some relevance.

Otherwise, if those do not apply, we can move this to the ENS Firewall team.

Sorry, using ePO 5.3.2 and when I ran the SQL command referenced in that KB article, the number I got back was 361 so I don't think this is the problem. 😞

I have a sinking feeling that our firewall catalog and existing firewall policy is just all messed up.
